The team at Asian Diver magazine (AGS’ sister company) dedicate their annual Asia Dive Expo (ADEX) to a different conservation issue every year. For 2011, the theme is TURTLES!
Asian Geographic Society’s Role
In partnership with AGS, there will be information boards in the ADEX 2011 exhibition hall. The aim is to spread awareness of turtles and their need for greater conservation efforts.
We will be highlighting the widespread threats they face, such as habitat loss and damage to nesting sites. We’ll also inform visitors about the direct threats from human activities, such as taking turtles and their eggs for sale in restaurants and medicine shops.
On a brighter note, there will also be messages of hope! Exhibition visitors will discover what’s being done around the world by various groups and individuals. Visitors will be able to find about more about current turtle campaigns and the various ways to get involved and help protect turtles.
How Can You Help?
The Asian Geographic Society is asking for your support before and during the event.
From now until 1st February you can send AGS your own ‘teeny tale’ (limited to 300 words please) about turtles. The aim is to create a collection to display at the event (and online) that will demonstrate the beauty of these fascinating creatures.
Whether you have a story to share about a personal encounter or you just want to put your thoughts and concerns down on paper, all styles and formats are welcome.
Then in April you can visit the ADEX 2011 event at Suntec Singapore, to add your voice to the growing movement of individuals (divers and non-divers alike) who want to help endangered species like turtles! At the event you can donate to the AGS campaign, sign-up for the Tag-a-Turtle Expedition with AGS and Asian Diver, plus this is a great chance to pick up turtle-themed AGS merchandise.

Deadline for submitting your TEENY TURTLE TALES is 1st February, if you would like the chance to be included in the AGS booth display at ADEX 2011.
Submissions can still be sent in after that date but there won’t be time to include them in the display feature.
