ASIAN GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY IS…
a non-profit, scientific and educational society dedicated to the promotion and conservation of Asia’s environment, culture and wildlife. It encourages civic consciousness for all Asians to take greater responsibility of their surrounding for the benefit of humanity and earth's biological diversity.
This is an initiative of the ASIAN Geographic Society to promote conservation, preservation and responsible tourism. Threats to a dying heritage can sometime come from tourism, conflict, natural disaster, modernization and climate change, and the best solution is to first discover and raise awareness, so that we can start preservation efforts that are critically important.
The unique thing about this competition is to tell the story on why such site, culture, costume, tradition to even preserving an Asian language is crucial!
Take a picture and write an essay (Maximum 800 words) on why the particular heritage of Asia must be preserve.
The Judging
ASIAN Geographic in-house team will select 20 finalists for judging by the international judging panel. Top three winners will be announced on 18 April 2009, which is also the date for World Heritage Day.
